When you are deciding whether and how to have surgery abroad, the references worth trusting are the independent ones with nothing to sell. These are the sources we use and point readers to.
Accreditation and standards
- Joint Commission International (jointcommissioninternational.org) — the international hospital-accreditation standard; check whether a hospital holds it.
Travelling for treatment
- NHS — going abroad for treatment (nhs.uk) — a level-headed overview of the trade-offs and the aftercare gap.
- GOV.UK — Thailand travel advice (gov.uk) — entry rules, safety, and health notes for Thailand.
- CDC Travelers’ Health (wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel) — vaccination and travel-health guidance.
- World Health Organization (who.int) — international health information.
Checking a clinician
- General Medical Council (gmc-uk.org) — how UK doctors are registered, and a useful model for the questions to ask about any surgeon’s qualifications.
These are starting points, not a substitute for advice from a doctor who can assess your own situation.
